Most of these standards are certified with an energy model (HOT2000 for NBC tiers, R-2000 and Net Zero; PHPP for Passive House). This gives a quick read on whether a design is in the right range before you pay for one.

Heat loss reduction compares this house to the NBC reference house: the same size and shape built to the prescriptive minimums for your location's climate zone (Tables 9.36.2.6.–9.36.2.8.) with 2.5 ACH50 (Clause 9.36.5.15.(2)(d)).
