Wall Stud Layout

Stud marks for a wall plate at 16", 19.2" or 24" on-centre. Free, no sign-up.

Lay the top and bottom plates side by side, hook your tape on the end, and mark each stud. The first and last studs sit flush with the plate ends.

Layout is pulled back 3/4" by default, so a 4x8 sheet started at the end breaks on the centre of a stud. Each mark is the edge of the stud nearest the hooked end — put an X on the far side of the line.
