R-value and RSI measure how well something resists heat (bigger is better); U-value is how much heat gets through (smaller is better) — U is simply 1 ÷ R, in matching units. R-1 = RSI 0.176.

Heat pump capacity is often given in tons: one ton is 12,000 BTU/h, about 3.5 kW.
